Mrs. Spring Fragrance was the only collection of short stories published by the writer Sui Sin Far, who was born Edith Maude Eaton in 1865. A woman of Chinese-English descent, she grew increasingly sensitive to the prejudices Chinese immigrants faced in North America.  In her career as a journalist and fiction writer, Sui Sin Far was perhaps the first Anglophone writer to sympathetically portray the Chinese-American experience.  Mrs. Spring Fragrance—a collection of original Chinese-American stories and Chinese folk tales—represented her dedication to giving Chinese Americans a voice in literature.
